Saru doing some leadership in What's Past is Prologue

A brief summary of “What’s Past is Prologue”: Whoa.

Lorca takes control of the Charon, ousting Georgiou as Emperor of the Terran Empire. Her sudden drop in station makes her a bit more amenable to working with Burnham. Meanwhile, Saru shows us what captaining a Starfleet vessel should look like.

Behind the Camera

Olatunde Osunsanmi returns to the director’s chair where he belongs! We saw him a few episodes back with “The Butcher’s Knife Cares Not for the Lamb’s Cry.” He was outstanding then. And yet somehow? He’s elevated his game. He’s going to elevate again with his Short Treks episode Calypso. And then he’ll be back for what’s looking like three episodes in season two, with the first being Point of Light. Whenever this guy does Star Trek, the world benefits.

Ted Sullivan also comes back in the writing department for “What’s Past is Prologue.” He’s most recently done “Lethe,” but he’s got two episodes in season two already. The season opener, “Brother,” and then “Light and Shadows.” Sullivan is thriving in the Star Trek universe. Give this guy an episode of Short Treks, CBS. Geeze.

In Front of the Camera

  • Rekha Sharma returns as Commander Landry! I’m still recovering from her death in the main universe.
  • Michelle Yeoh is back again this week as an increasingly desperate “Emperor” Georgiou.
